Description
Just in on consignment from the family of the original owner is this beautiful 1970 Gibson Les Paul Custom Black Beauty. This Black beauty has all the transitional appointments of a 1969-70 Les Paul Custom, no "Made in USA" stamp. A three-piece Mahogany neck with pancake body abr bridge with nylon saddles.
The body shows its wear as you would expect from a 55-year-old guitar. There are dings and chips and finish checking all over the body. There is a nice sized dent on the body by the jack plate on the side of the lower rear bout(pictured).
The back of the guitar has the Owners' last name (Watt) carved in the paint. it only broke through in a few spots to the wood. It could possibly be wet sanded and polished out, but we will leave that to the next owner. There is also plenty of buckle rash but not much through the paint.
There is also a printed Sticker on the pickup cavity that could also be removed, but we like to leave things like that as they came to us. The pickups are the original Patent Number humbuckers, and they sound great. The pots and rest of the electronics are also original. The solder points cover most of the date codes, but we did see on the upper tone that the pot date is 1970. We are guessing an early 70 with what is on this guitar. The neck is very comfortable and is smooth with no breaks or repairs. The guitar had a bone nut installed on it at some point and had the frets dressed at the same point. They are original and low as to be expected on these models from this time period. It plays amazing with no buzzing and low action.
The Waffle back tuners are also original and work with no issues.
This is an amazing guitar with a ton of vibe and will make the next owner very happy.
